Drug Policy
Northern Management has a ZERO tolerance policy
for the use, possession, manufacturing or sale of illegal drugs
of any sort. Residents (or their visitors) violating their
lease through such activities will be promptly evicted from
the premises. Minnesota Law is very clear on this matter.
Every oral or written lease in Minnesota now includes a promise
by the resident not to use or allow the making, selling, giving
away, bartering, delivering, exchanging, distribution, use
or possession of illegal drugs on the premises. A resident
violating this law loses the right to possess the rental property
and Management can and should promptly evict the resident (Minn.
Stat. 504.181, subd. 1 (1992)). All other provisions of the lease,
including but not limited to the resident's obligation to pay rent;
remain in effect until the lease is terminated by the terms of
the lease or operation of law.
Additionally, if illegal drugs or contraband totaling more
than $100 are seized from the property, Management is required,
upon notification, to promptly evict the resident, or to assign
the county attorney that right (Minn. Stat. 609.5317, subd.
1 (b) (1992)).
The tried and true saying remains the simple answer--indeed,
the ONLY answer: “Just say NO to drugs!”
